If they are left uncut the product is called loop pile. During manufacturing fibers are woven or looped into the backing. The disadvantage of cut and loop carpet is that it can look worn out more quickly than the other styles. Cut pile and loop pile.

Another drawback to cut and loops are the cost. Loop pile refers to a carpet in which the loop fibers are not cut see diagram above. As cut and loop carpets age with use they tend to look more worn out over time even when you invest in quality carpets with long warranties. All carpet pile starts out looped.

This type of carpet is left in it s woven form and consists of several loops of carpet fiber. This is because the longer cut fibers bend over the shorter looped fibers. In a cut and loop there is a gap in the cut fibers where the loops exist so it is much more obvious when the cut fibers lean. This can cause the carpet to look as though it has worn down.

The reason for this is because the cut fibers which are longer tend to bloom or untwist and fold over the looped fibers which are shorter and the shorter fibers become hidden as a result. A patterned loop carpet is formed when the loop fibers are at various heights. They should therefore be avoided for high traffic areas.
