Cutting doors for carpet.
After cutting the jambs to length i set the hinge jamb on a 3 8 inch thick shingle butt.
Quick plane and some new screws on.
I also make sure that there will be plenty of space to keep the bottom of the door clear of the carpet.
For that reason i cut both jambs to a length that keeps them roughly 3 8 inch off the subfloor.
Tap the pin with a hammer from the bottom to raise it up high enough to grasp it at the top with.
The only place it may happen is on the lock end but if you slow the cut down as it is about to appear your ok.
1 identify the height that you would like to cut back the door.
Swing the door over the full arc of its travel and mark it where it drags heaviest on the carpet.
If the door is dragging on carpet it works pretty well to put a no.
Trimming a wood door with a circular saw without splintering the wood or damaging the finish is a challenge.
The best way to cut off a door bottom.
2 pencil on the carpet and mark the door.
If you ve just installed carpeting your doors will probably rub and bind which means that you have to trim off the bottoms.
Ide t someone if the attacked my doors like that.
In other words cut off a little try it and cut off a little more if necessary.
But with carpet that discrepancy is hardly noticeable.
Here s the method of door cutting that works best for us.
Use a tape measure to determine the distance from the finished.
The radius of the pencil usually provides adequate clearance.
Carpet fitters normally take doors off if it wont fit anyway so its errelevent really.
If carpet is not down maybe.
Ive no doubt it does the job but i bet it looks its different for skirting as jointer is on flat solid floor so you will get a flat uniform cut but on doors with carpet down.
With the carpet down.
The tape helps to avoid splintering when cutting the door.
I scribed a line at two different.
